The Lesson In Less Doing And More Being
Monday Aug 08, 2022
Monday Aug 08, 2022
EP248: This episode was inspired by a recent coaching session and a conversation with one of my students who’s juggling two jobs and feeling like she can’t get ahead, and as a result, is not focused on the internal work that is the key to changing her situation.
Unfortunately, many of us fall into the DOING that keeps us on the hamster wheel of life which certainly will not bring us the life we desire. Because if it could, wouldn’t we have it by now?
So it’s time to try something new!!! And that is to start following the BE, DO, HAVE model that says you first must BE the future version of yourself that has the life you desire. When you step into that version of yourself, your actions are those that will attract the things you want so that you will HAVE them.
The mistake most people make is that they are behaving the way they’ve always behaved which is operating from an identity that has created their current reality. And they think that if they keep DOING the things they think need to be done, like work two jobs and run around frazzled and frustrated, they may eventually get what they want.
But operating with the same identity you’ve been operating with up until now, will not get you closer to your goals. You must change who you are BEING.
Be the person who will attract the life you want. Get off the damn hamster wheel. And adopt the following behaviors that will attract what you want into your life:
- Write down what you want. Make it clear to the universe so it knows and can help you
- Affirm what you want every day. State your desires as if they are already a part of your reality.
- Have a clear picture of the future reality you desire in your mind and visualize that picture regularly.
- Believe the universe has your back and wants to help you get what you want. You don’t have to do all of the heavy lifting. The more heavy lifting you do, the more likely you are to slack on the internal work that is necessary to create the reality you want.

The Lessons Of The Invisible Staircase
Saturday Jul 30, 2022
Saturday Jul 30, 2022
EP246: In this episode I share a concept I learned from the book “You Are Awesome” by Neil Pasricha. I loved hearing his explanation of the invisible staircase and how we tend to get stuck because we can’t “see” the steps ahead of us.
Neil backs this concept up with facts, sharing studies that have been done that explain how our human brain works to keep us from thinking positively about the future when we hit a roadblock in life. As he also explained, it’s helpful to look back and see the steps we’ve already taken and how we kept climbing in spite of past roadblocks which is something I encourage you to do after listening to this episode.
I also explain a concept I came up with when thinking about sharing this today… The staircase landing!
Think about what a landing is… A stop on the way to the next step. It’s quite possible you’ve found yourself lingering for too long at a point on your staircase of life, hesitating on taking a step forward due to fear of the unknown. I know I’ve done that!!! Because if we can’t “see” what’s ahead, it must be bad, right?!
And maybe this concept resonates because you find yourself on a landing right now…
Listen in and learn the valuable lessons of the invisible staircase and how you can use it to understand that the faster you take the next step, the sooner you will get out of that bad place you may be standing (or sitting!) in.
It’s just as Neil says: You are simply doing a crappy job of picturing what lies ahead! Because we ALL do that! So how about you start the practice of picturing the things you WANT in your life? What a great idea!
After hearing this lesson, you’ll likely realize how obvious it is that when you have faith that better things will come and you create a positive picture of the things you desire, the more quickly you’ll take the next step.
So don’t delay on taking that next step on your invisible staircase of life!!!
And enjoy the climb!

From People-Pleasing To Homeless To Living Her Dream Life, with Brenda Florida
Tuesday Jul 26, 2022
Tuesday Jul 26, 2022
EP244: This week’s guest is Brenda Florida, a certified life coach, speaker and podcast host. She specializes in facilitating the transformation from people pleasing into self-love. She’s a strong believer that when we love ourselves we can give to others out of our overflow.
Brenda’s dream transformation didn’t go as planned - when she quit her job to go full time in her coaching business, everything went wrong. She eventually ended up being homeless for 2 years and couch surfing, but through her mindset and perseverance, she now IS living that dream life she had envisioned, with a place of her own 2 blocks from the beach and seeing the business she loves growing and thriving.
In this episode, Brenda and I talked about:
- The story of her growth trajectory and how she shares her lived experience in her coaching
- The biggest lessons she’s learned in life, especially from her homeless experience
- How her perspective on money shifted, as she focused on abundance, even when it seemed she had very little
- Why she decided to start a podcast about people-pleasing
Her life struggle is an inspirational message about perseverance, tenacity and possibilities. It's her personal story of how you can create the feeling or states of being that you want, even when your environment looks very different.

The Lesson In Fully Embracing Purpose
Friday Jul 22, 2022
Friday Jul 22, 2022
EP243: I start this episode by talking about the downloads I received - the thoughts that came to me when I got silent as I was contemplating how to share this breakthrough with my listeners. These downloads were about:
- How I see the pursuit of purpose as two important steps and why so many of us stop after the first step, leaving their purpose at just the inkling stage without any real pursuit, which is really sad.
- The three key components of the "finding purpose" puzzle that I explain and how they led me to finding my later-in-life purpose, so you have a real life example.
I finish the episode by explaining the aha that came to me, after my coach pointed my blind spot, which had to do with why I had veered away from talking about my purpose. It's a common blind spot among business owners who want all of their clients to succeed so if you're a business owner who has already found your purpose, this part of the episode may be helpful to you.
The great thing about breakthroughs is that, once that obstacle is cleared, the downloads come, along with so much clarity!
So no more piddling around, talking about things that don't truly move the needle and speak to the incredible transformation my program provides which is finding the spark that will get you started down the path to a purposeful second half of life.
If a more purposeful life resonates with you and you're ready to get going on that beautiful, adventure-filled, and exciting hike, let me be your guide!!! My program is all you need to light your way! (Just reach out to me on one of my social media channels or email me and I'll help you get started ASAP!)

You are Never Too Old to Ignite A New Spark, with Kim Selby
Tuesday Jul 19, 2022
Tuesday Jul 19, 2022
EP242: This week’s guest interview is with Kim Selby, a woman with a varied background including advertising, public relations, fashion, acting, travel, motivational speaking, and raising a couple of awesome kids and who is constantly reinventing herself.
She started her career in New Your City, working in advertising, PR and as a traveling Merchandising Editor at Glamour magazine. Act 2 took her to San Francisco, because she had “dated everyone in New York,” and that was a good thing because shortly thereafter she met her soulmate, got married, and had two glorious children, filling her time by volunteering as PTA president as well as other activities.
Kim has a super fun and vibrant personality and is a great example of how to embrace Act 3 of your life. She is currently being fueled by her love of speaking and her “Ignite Your Spark” podcast, And she’s living by her motto and inspiring those of us over 50 that “you are never too old” by getting her first modeling gig at age 64!
In this episode, Kim and I talked about:
- The story behind what prompted her to start a podcast last year at age 64.
- A shocking revelation that she discovered by accident right after her mom died.
- Her love for motivational speaking and how that desire surfaced at a young age.
- The actions she took to give more meaning to her “empty nest” stage of life.
I loved our high energy conversation and how Kim walks her talk. She’s such a great example of how to stay vibrant by leaning into what excites you and pursuing your passions regardless of age.

The Lesson In Dot Dot Dot (...)
Friday Jul 15, 2022
Friday Jul 15, 2022
EP241: I got this great concept about how you can use an ellipsis to adjust your mindset from a new book I'm listening to called "You Are Awesome." I ran across this book recently and it looked decent so I downloaded it with one of my many Audible credits and I am LOVING IT. In fact, I'd say this book about being awesome is awesome!!! lol!
I love finding great books that shift how we can look at things and this is one of those, taking a simple sentence and switching its punctuation so it turns from a negative into a positive. Just brilliant!
I much prefer reading a book vs. listening, but I'm loving the author's voice and the way he presents the material in this audio book, like he's right in the room talking to me.
Listen in and see if replacing a period - for a recent setback or obstacle you are currently facing that you may be using in your sentence of your life story - with a dot dot dot, gives you new hope for what may unfold in the future and helps you to keep moving forward because change will come, and I believe having this little mindset hack will get you over the “feeling in the dump” hump sooner.

It’s Never Too Late To Learn To Play The Ukulele, with Matt Parkin
Tuesday Jul 12, 2022
Tuesday Jul 12, 2022
EP240: My guest this week is Matt Parkin, founder of The Awesome Ukulele Academy who can teach anyone how to play a song on the ukulele in under 3 sessions! His virtual school was his reaction to the pandemic, which means it’s one of the positive outcomes because Matt is now able to take his expertise anywhere in the world and awaken the musician in those of us who have always wanted to learn to play an instrument.
After playing in “dodgy” rock bands in the late 80’s and 90’s, Matt moved from the UK to Andalusia to raise his 3 children and chickens and to make furniture.
At the age of 45, he discovered a love of teaching, by pure coincidence, which led him to go back to school and get his degree. When the parents realized how much fun their children were having, he started teaching them too. And now, after taking his ukulele teaching talents to the internet, he has a thriving multi-six figure business teaching adults worldwide how to play what he calls “the easiest instrument ever!”
In this episode, Matt and I talked about:
- His evolution from professional rock musician to music teacher.
- His transition from in-person to online teaching and how the medium accelerates the learning process.
- How learning just one song has so many positive benefits and how anyone, at any age, can do it.
- The importance of having fun and doing what you love.
Matt hopes to inspire you that it’s never too late and you are never too old to do what you want to do, whether that’s learning an instrument, setting up a business or going to Nepal. Seize the day - life is finite.
I so enjoy interviewing guests like Matt who are impacting the world in big ways by doing what they love. He injected so much energy into me just by the enthusiasm he exuded so get ready because it is contagious!

The Lesson In Not Getting What You Want
Friday Jul 08, 2022
Friday Jul 08, 2022
EP239: How many times have you wanted something and not gotten it? And when that happens, what is your reaction? Can you remember a situation recently and how you handled it?
I ask because this recently happened to me. I failed at achieving one of my goals. And THAT led to the inspiration for this episode, as well as a new process I just came up with while brainstorming this subject - the 4 Ws. (I love it when something amazing happens from inspired action!)
In this episode I talk about how I’ve learned to shift my thoughts when I don’t get what I want. I used to dwell on the negative instead of looking for the lessons. But now I’m able to pull myself out of that negative energy so much more quickly. It’s made such a difference and given me so much insight on what I now don’t ever perceive as failures.
I also share a specific example of a failed goal from 4 years ago that turned me towards a completely different path, but ultimately towards a more a more fulfilling life that I now know was the right path, even though I couldn’t see it in the midst of that failure at the time.
Below I’ve listed the 4 Ws that will help you remember what to ask yourself after you experience a situation where you don’t get what you want. Use them to help you move you into a more proactive and positive place instead of a reactive and negative one.
- WHAT
- WINS
- WHY
- WHETHER
To get the specifics of what each W means and the process to go through, tune into the episode!
