EP218: This week’s guest is Cindy Williams Schrauben. Cindy lives in Michigan where she writes books for kids that range from the truly serious to the seriously silly. Her debut picture book, This Could Be You was released on April 1, 2022.
Becoming a published author at 63 has inspired Cindy to empower other mature adults with the mindset that it is never too late to dream. When not writing or connecting with other authors, Cindy might be found dissecting her grandsons’ shenanigans for story ideas, reading on the floor in the bookstore, or eating ice cream… ideally all at once.
In this episode, Cindy and I talk about:
- how she became a children’s author
- her book writing journey - from start to finish
- the fear of failure that hindered her from pursuing writing for far too long
- how her life has changed now that she’s doing what she loves
Cindy admits she’s NOT always been one to persevere – in fact, when she was younger she often would quit when things got difficult. But she’s living proof of the George Eliot quote: “it’s never too late to be what you might have been!” Listen in as she shares her perspective on what worked, what didn’t, and how she finally persevered despite challenges.

The Lessons From Shoulding All Over Ourselves
Friday Apr 22, 2022
Friday Apr 22, 2022
EP217: This is a twofer episode because I'm sharing TWO Lessons Learned instead of just one!
The first is a lesson I learned earlier this week from renting an Airbnb "apartment" that turned out to be not what I expected... I decided to add it to this episode at the last minute, while it was fresh in my mind, because it's a great lesson in paying more attention to detail and I thought it may be helpful to someone who is planning an upcoming trip!
The second lesson learned is the one I planned to do, which is an exercise I did at a recent business retreat. It's a bit of a follow up to the one I did last week so if you missed my episode on the Inner Critic, check it out here.
Make sure you actually DO the exercise and don't think just by listening to it, that suffices as doing it! Unlike most episodes, this one requires extra EFFORT! ;) I promise that going through the process as I describe is super effective.
What came up for you? How do these statements tie back to the Inner Critic exercise you did? Are there parallels or did new stuff come up?

The Lessons From My Inner Critic
Sunday Apr 17, 2022
Sunday Apr 17, 2022
EP215: I'm excited to bring you my FIRST "Lessons Learned" episode of this new annual series! I'll be sharing one of these episodes every Friday, with the exception of the first Friday of the month, which is when I'll be airing my "Just Friggin' Do It" monthly episodes.
In these "Lessons Learned" episodes, I'll be sharing something I have recently learned that I believe will provide you with new insight or a learning opportunity, maybe with an exercise - like this episode - or simply inspire you to look at something that has happened, maybe a mistake, as a great lesson.
In today's episode, I share an exercise that I did at a recent business retreat that focused on mindset. The exercise is a great way to uncover those unhelpful messages from the "Inner Critic" who unfortunately resides in all of us and controls a lot of our thoughts and decisions, keeping so many of us from achieving our full potential.
Listen in and do the exercise to discover how to catch those negative messages and turn them into affirmations that will diminish your Inner Critic's voice and remove some of the perceived blocks you may be experiencing.

[JFDI #1] Turning “Too Complicated” into “So Much Fun”
Friday Apr 08, 2022
Friday Apr 08, 2022
EP213: Even though this episode may be about a topic you have no interest in, think about how it may apply in other areas of your life where you are resisting doing something that keeps coming up, either from conversations you’re having or internal thoughts that keep arising.
Often resistance is just our ego pushing something away because that thing is outside of our comfort zone. Pay attention to the resistance. It’s often fear in disguise. And once you overcome the resistance, magic happens.
I’m having SO.MUCH.FUN doing Reels. Check them out if you’re on Instagram and let me know what you think! It’s so crazy how I used to think how uncreative I was, and now, I’m having such a blast thinking up ideas for funny videos that I hope people make people smile, as well as stop and think!
What have you been resisting? Is it Reels? Or is it some other kind of technology?
What is it that you are making up silly stories about in your head, like I did, that really aren’t true? The truth is that you won’t know until you just friggin’ do it!!!
Here's the TEDx talk that I mentioned: "The Magic of Words - What We Speak Is What We Create" by Andrew Bennett
It's soooo good! Make sure to listen and try out his tips!!!

[NEW SERIES] Just Friggin’ Do It!
Friday Apr 08, 2022
Friday Apr 08, 2022
EP212: We’re moving from activating ABUNDANCE, the series on which I’ve done 52 episodes over the past 12 months, and into ACTION, my new series where I’ll be talking about things that I’ve been thinking about doing that I’ve procrastinated on OR that keep coming up in my thoughts that I’ve been avoiding because I’m too scared, too complacent, or too much listening to my logical brain (or all of the above!)
With this series, I’ll be sharing ONE ACTION PER MONTH for the next 12 months that I finally just friggin’ did! You are my witness. And by sharing these actions openly, it will not only push me to do the things that have been just thoughts for far too long (and I know will be great for my soul), it will serve as an example to you that you too can do scary, hard, and maybe-a-little-crazy things.
I’d love for you to play along with me and commit to doing TWELVE NEW THINGS over the next year because what you’ll discover is once you do them, you’ll discover new things about yourself and, in the DOING, have the most unexpected and amazing experiences along the way.

A Surgeon’s Career Derailed And Revived By Stress with Dr. Tami Berry
Monday Apr 04, 2022
Monday Apr 04, 2022
EP211: This week’s podcast guest is Dr. Tami Berry, a former surgeon and internationally recognized stress resilience expert, who helps people overcome burnout and transform stress into fuel for renewed energy, confidence, and joy.
Living through her own burnout story, led her to research and develop a process for building stress resilience that helps transform high-levels of stress into a powerful force for life-long fulfillment and success.
In this episode, Dr. Tami shared:
- Her back story of how she became a surgeon, her love for the work and why she couldn’t continue with it due to the high levels of stress and the destructive behavior the stress caused.
- What her downward spiral taught her about the mind and body connection and its combined power to both harm and heal.
- How to recognize the invisible signs of stress.
- Four quick tips to lower stress.
Dr. Tami’s story is a powerful example of what can happen when there is little understanding about the impact of stress. What happens most often is that we start engaging in habits, behaviors and actions that leave us feeling depleted, unworthy and unfulfilled. But, as she’s shown from her own experience, it’s something we can turn around!
In this episode, she hopes to inspire and empower YOU to look at how stress might be influencing your life in harmful ways so you can take your power back and stop living the average stress-filled life that, unfortunately, is all too common these days.

Activating Abundance (#52) By Being In Integrity After A Mistake Is Made
Sunday Apr 03, 2022
Sunday Apr 03, 2022
EP210: Today's topic was inspired by two things... First, by my conversation with Debbie Colbourn, who I interviewed on my last episode (EP 209). And second, by a topic that was discussed at my business retreat this past week.
It never ceases to amaze me how the universe delivers a message to me that is perfectly aligned with a subject I was going to talk about and how the context in which it's provided always seems to add value to that message.
I love this energetic back and forth with a power that is much greater than me - a power I used to be so oblivious of but now pay extra attention to. Even though I now have an awareness of it, I am still amazed when I see the ways in which it helps me be a better vessel. And as more messages come, I gain more faith and confidence in its guidance.
I know that the honest conversation I had with Debbie and the topic of integrity at my retreat happened the same week for a reason. More aha moments for me! More teaching moments for my podcast listeners!
Thinking about and reviewing my notes on the integrity conversation from my retreat, connecting that conversation to Debbie's mistake and how integrity was compromised, and then viewing the loss of integrity through the abundance lens to help recover was super valuable for me.
Mistakes can't be avoided, but acting in integrity and always applying an abundant mindset will make mistakes a lot more bearable and will also be helpful to others.
I hope you've enjoyed the year of activating abundance with me! Looking back at all of the topics we've covered, it's amazing how much abundance can be activated with the simplest of actions.
If you enjoyed this episode, please leave a review and subscribe to (or follow) the podcast (if you haven't already) so you don't miss any new episodes.
I'm looking forward to bringing you my new "Just Friggin' Do It" series along with a year of "Lessons Learned" topics to inspire you in your second half. Tune in to my next episode on Friday, 4/8/22 to learn all about what these two new podcast series are all about.

How To Bounce Back From Big Mistakes with Debbie Colbourn
Monday Mar 28, 2022
Monday Mar 28, 2022
EP209: My latest guest is Debbie Colbourn, who calls herself an adventurer, former sport car racer, mountain climber, world traveler and a grandma of 4. Her resume and interests are long and varied and she says she’s filled with a need to always be learning and trying new things.
A combination of 25+ years as a professional accountant and guiding 1 to 25 million dollar companies through their life stages, along with an education in Kinesiology, an active competition life in performance dog sports and a desire to improve her own dogs’ fitness for competition, led her, in 2011, to create The Summit, a 7,000 square foot training facility and her first online business: The Fit Body Fit Mind Dog.
In this interview Debbie and I talked about:
- How she created boundaries in her corporate work that supported her adventurous lifestyle
- Her very different and interesting hobbies
- Her biggest fear is and the event in her life that created it
- The ‘bounce back-ability’ that is so important when life hands us challenges
As a black sheep in her family, Debbie has had her fair share of struggles that carried over into her adult life. She is very open in sharing her lessons and says: “Every single human will face things that pull the rug out from under you, and the power comes from what you learn from that.”
