EP158: Today's episode was inspired by the October 9th excerpt from the "Simple Abundance" book called "Coping with Stress" because it caused me to be aware that I've been feeling a bit stressed lately. And going back through the list today really helped me.
The 47 de-stressing suggestions I share are listed below, with the ones that personally resonated to me marked with an asterisk. I suggest you pull out the ones that resonate with you to help you de-stress in times of need.
- Cultivate gratitude.
- Turn your phone off.
- Carve out an hour a day for solitude.*
- Begin and end the day with prayer, reflection, or silence.
- Keep it simple.
- Keep your house picked up.
- Don't over schedule.*
- Strive for realistic deadlines.
- Never make a promise you can't keep.
- Allow an extra half-hour for everything you do.*
- Create quiet surroundings at home and at work.
- Go to bed at nine o’clock twice a week.*
- Always carry something interesting to read.
- Breathe - deeply and often.
- Move - walk, dance, run, find a sport you enjoy.
- Drink pure spring water. Lots of It.
- Eat only when hungry.
- If it’s not delicious, don’t eat it.
- Be instead of do.*
- Set aside one day a week for rest and renewal.*
- Laugh more often.
- Luxuriate in your senses.
- Always opt for comfort.
- If you don’t love it, live without it.
- Let Mother Nature nurture.*
- No phones allowed at the dinner table.
- Stop trying to please everybody.
- Start pleasing yourself.
- Stay away from negative people.
- Don’t squander precious resources: time, creative energy.
- Nurture friendships.*
- Don’t be afraid of your passion.
- Approach problems as challenges.
- Honor your aspirations.
- Set achievable goals.
- Surrender expectations.
- Savor beauty.*
- Create boundaries.
- For every yes, let there be a no.
- Don’t worry; be happy.
- Remember, happiness is a living emotion.
- Exchange security for serenity.*
- Care for your soul.*
- Cherish your dreams.
- Express love every day.
- Search for your Authentic Self until you find her.* (And Laurie's addition: And never let her go!)
- Don’t tweet in bed.
Copy the list and pull out the ones that really resonate for you, then print your list out and post it somewhere you will see it every day as a reminder to be aware and listen to your body and apply your favorite de-stressing suggestions as needed.

EP157: Today my guest is Elena Hartz who describes herself as a 48 year old mother who is twice divorced, Russian-born (raised in Ukraine) and who immigrated to the US in 1993.
I was compelled to interview when I heard her story on her daughter's podcast. To hear the incredible story of her young life in Russia, her early marriage to a man who turned out to be a liar and an abuser, and her family's escape from Communist Russia, check out Episode 217 of the Manifestation Babe podcast. It's a long one but so worth it! (In this episode, we don't go into those details.)
We talked about so many things including:
- her perspective on the American dream and comparison to her way of life as a person who grew up in a communist society
- her difficult adjustment to her daughter's version of the American dream which is not the traditional one she had dreamt for her
- her big aha moment about manifestation and how it can backfire on us.
- her amazing take on "mistakes."
- her Rythmia experience that involved Ayahuasca plant healing ceremonies and her transformative experience with forgiveness.
- how the pandemic was a gift, her excitement about her future and her new season of discovery as she now realizes. her purpose, which she used to think was "being Kathrin's mom," goes much deeper than that.
Our conversation is by far one of my favorites not just because Elena is a great example of a woman who is obviously determined but because she is on a continual personal development path and just entering a whole new stage of life as a single woman for THE VERY FIRST TIME!!!
As Elena says herself: "My story is ever evolving. I am not done yet, and I don’t think anyone truly is ever fully evolved."

EP156: Today I share the importance of human connection and a couple of examples of how it has brought abundance into my life this year.
This topic was inspired by a Disney movie I watched with my 3 year old grandson, who resisted watching it but then sat through it mesmerized the whole time! If you haven't seen "Soul," I highly recommend it.
I think the message of the movie is even more impactful after having gone through the pandemic as human connection was pulled from us suddenly and for a long period of time.

EP155: My guest this week is Hilary Rank, a former corporate leader turned Women's Health & Wellness coach. At age 40, she decided life was too short not to fulfill her life purpose, which is to help other women transform into their fit & fabulous selves.
In this episode, we covered a lot of topics including:
- what drove her to setting a personal goal to enter a bikini competition and finally have the body she always dreamed of after her 2nd son was born,
- the insidious and often misunderstood symptoms she experienced that can result from systemic stress,
- what to look out for if you hear the common response from your primary doctor, when it relates to hormonal issues, of: “You are fine.” but you know otherwise, and
- the little-known, but all-too-common root cause of all chronic disease issues.
Hilary talks about how she, at age 40, got into the best shape of her life while simultaneously becoming the sickest. She thought she had done everything right, by losing her baby weight and achieving a fit body, which is what she always wanted, but once she was there, she fell headfirst into a “waterfall of issues.” The truth was, she went about being healthy in the wrong way - extreme dieting and exercising, all while holding a stressful job with big responsibility along with parenting 2 young boys. It led to low thyroid function, imbalanced hormones and adrenal burnout.
Hilary’s journey back to recovering her own good health & happiness led her to create her passion-driven, coaching business and the Forty Feels Fabulous Method, which helps women over 40 gain more energy, lose extra weight and LOVE who they see in the mirror. She has a desire deep within to guide women to solutions quickly so they don’t have to suffer and stand alone as long as she did.

EP154: I recorded this episode on my back deck and I felt like my vibe was unusually high because of that... You see, I LOVE Fall. It's my absolute most favorite season and it is BEAUTIFUL in Virginia right now.
What I've learned over the past couple of years from doing such deep soul sparking work on myself and helping others is that when you align with what you love, it raises your vibrational frequency and hence your mood.
In this episode, I talk about how we need to keep challenging our mind and body because the more we do that, the happier (and more abundant) we feel. I think it's one of the most important things we must do as we age to keep our brains and bodies vital.
I also share a few of the things I've recently done over the past few weeks to challenge MY mind and body so you have some examples. It doesn't have to be too complicated. Simply expose yourself to new things!
Stop doing the same boring things over and over and over that a) don't challenge you and b) don't make you feel something different!
And one more thing... We often don't feel different until after we've done it so give that something new a try!!!

EP153: Today’s episode is my interview with Meghan Krause, an award-winning, forward-thinking employee wellbeing authority turned coach, entrepreneur, and speaker who has worked with thousands of people to enhance their professional and personal lives. Her work has been featured on Thrive Global and TEDx and she also hosts the Bullshift podcast.
When Meghan was describing herself prior to her midlife transformation, she said to picture Diane Keaton in Baby Boom, feeling “can't get no satisfaction” despite a surface appearance of success - very similar to the old me except she was about 10 years younger when she experienced her “midlife nadir.”
She finally listened to her gut instinct and pursued a Masters in Public Health in health promotion and integrative healing therapies. Then she landed her choice gig as the college director of wellbeing. But in this role she found herself increasingly… unwell. Feeling like an imposter and feeling that strong gut instinct still gurgling, saying "Why don't you go out on your own?" So she once again listened and dove head first.
43 years in...from the rocky, unwell road—paved with toxic mold, chronic fatigue, autoimmune disease, and a bunch of other stuff life threw at her -- her well being is born from wisdom of experience, bolstered by all kinds of degrees and certificates, and her soul’s passion of helping others in early midlife get to their own state of wellbeing. Now Meghan helps people navigate life transitions with greater meaning, purpose, and skill.
In this interview, we covered a wide variety of interesting topics including:

EP151: I really hit it off with my guest this week, Stacey Isaacs. Stacey has gone through many career transitions - from courtroom attorney, to chef, to writer/editor/author, to now owning and running The Harvest Inn, a bed & breakfast in wine country on the North Fork of Long Island, with her husband. Clearly we had lots to chat about.
Stacey also has a Masters degree in Oriental Medicine/Herbs and a license in Acupuncture. As she joked, some people think this diversity is interesting while others just think she has the attention-span of a gnat. LOL! But I love her perspective on this constant desire to learn. She says: “My best life began after 40 and I get so frustrated that not all women know how to do this -- it's not hard, you just need the information.”
She authored “The Chinese Medicine Cookbook” because she’s passionate about helping heal people with food. She put all of her knowledge together - foods, herbs, and supplements - and has helped people get amazing results using simple recipes.
During this interview, Stacey shares her wisdom and how her life pivots evolved into a passion for Chinese medicine. Morgyn moved cross-country to Southern California in 2019, bringing her 25+ years of study, practice, and personal recovery full circle in her business and art..
