Halloween’s Over But Are You Still Wearing a Mask?
Wednesday Nov 01, 2023
Wednesday Nov 01, 2023
EP376: As I've become more fascinated with how the brain works and what makes people do the things they do that continue to keep them stuck and unhappy, I've come across a shocking statistic:
98% of the Earth's population is not self-actualized, which means that only 2% of people are living authentic to who they truly are! This is according to Abraham Maslow, who is one of the founders of humanistic psychology and the famous hierarchy of needs.
And the worst part is they don't even know it!!!
A good analogy I've found to explain what it's like when someone is not living from their most authentic version is that they are wearing a mask.
Makes sense, right?
On Halloween we don costumes to be a certain character for fun yet we don't even realize that we could be doing that all of the other 364 days in the year too! Isn't this a perfect topic for this Halloween week?!
So listen in and hear what behaviors and ways of being might be indicators that you could still be wearing a mask, even though Halloween is over.
I also give specific examples of my past I now know were choices I made that were completely inauthentic to who I am at my core, and then I share 6 steps you can take to help you discover your true self.
My mission in the time I have left is to help drive this awareness to the 98% and help them understand it is ok to off their masks because life is a whole heckuva lot better when you can truly be who you are meant to be!

EP375: Today’s guests are Second Half SPARK School students, Kim Diede and Karen Hill who, when I first met them, were in very different places in their life but the transformations they experienced from the work they did with me in the school have been similar because now they are both sparked, living life on their terms and waking up happy and fulfilled with the right things on their to-do lists.
Kim and Karen are two great examples of women who have discovered the secret to igniting their spark in their second half. With unwavering commitment, these two have pushed beyond their fears and found newfound confidence, which has opened up exciting possibilities.
In this episode, we talk about:
- Each one’s leap of faith to take action towards positive change.
- The energetic field we create that can attract our desires and dreams.
- The value of meeting women who are in the same situation and the reward of connections made from having a supportive community.
- Things they look forward to doing which seemed out of reach before.
Kim shares how she has learned to step beyond her comfort zone, while Karen shares her perspective on the societal milestones that can mislead us and limit our thoughts about what is possible.
As Kim and Karen reflect on their lessons learned since beginning their journey to get sparked and the fun future that they’re excited about, it becomes evident that the reality that is now their second half is filled with hope, continued self-exploration, and new opportunities.
Let Kim’s and Karen’s experiences inspire you to go after the boundless potential that life has to offer, no matter your age, and create your own unique, brighter, and more fulfilling rest of life.

From The End of Her Rope to Making Bold Moves in 3 Months, with Laura Volz
Monday Oct 23, 2023
Monday Oct 23, 2023
EP373: Today I have a special guest who agreed to come on the podcast to share the incredible journey she’s had since she signed up for a free training workshop I did earlier this year. Meet Laura Volz, who after that workshop made, what she calls, the very “scary” decision to join the Second Half SPARK School and go deep in the self-exploration, subconscious brain rewiring, and vision-setting work we do there.
That decision has changed the trajectory of her life in ways she could not have even imagined back at the beginning of 2023. In fact, she wrote me an email in just 3 months after she joined and here’s an excerpt:
“When I watched your free workshops on Facebook, I was at the end of my rope. I felt like you were talking directly to me. I knew there had to be more for me. But What?? How do I find it?? How do I know??
I decided to sign up for your Sparked Second Half School. I don't usually do this kind of thing. I didn't know what to expect and It was very scary. I decided that as frightened as I was, of the unknown, I was more afraid of not knowing. I have been treading water in life for a very long time and I am tired.”
I’m so happy she got to the point where she finally took action and that working with me in the Second Half SPARK School was exactly what she needed. What she realized very quickly is that she was not living the life she wanted and that was no longer acceptable. And wow, did she ever take big bold action!
In this episode, Laura talks about:
- Her lifelong fear of speaking up and how she learned that, as a people pleaser, she had always put everyone else’s priorities ahead of hers.
- How much she hated her job, knowing she could retire, but afraid to let go of that secure income.
- How the decisions she’s made have impacted her relationship with her husband.
- The incredibly courageous and BOLD big moves she’s made in a very short time that the old Laura would have never been brave enough to make!
Our conversation is proof that the unknown future that lies ahead for each of us is one we have the power to create. And that unknown, but better-than-we-can-imagine, future can begin today with one simple action.
Let Laura’s story inspire give you hope that you too can gain the knowledge (and courage) you need in an incredibly short period of time and move very quickly into the better life you long for.
If Laura’s story resonates and you are ready to stop accepting the life that isn’t making you happy, then the Second Half SPARK School is open for a very short time this week. (10/23/23 - 10/26/23) Just think what is possible for you in just 3 months…
And the best part? Whatever it is you might think is possible, is just the tip of the surface! Laura is just another example of the many students who have joined the school and had amazing transformations. And what they all had in common is that they didn’t think it was possible until it was!!!

EP372: Today’s guest, Penny Richardson, one of my Second Half SPARK School students, is a great example of how you can drastically change your life no matter how old you are. She shares her transformative journey towards self-discovery and growth and opens up about the pivotal realization that she was hindering her own progress and blaming external factors for her lack of action.
She also reflected on her tendencies to seek validation from others and discussed the moment she recognized the importance of prioritizing her relationship with herself and her faith.
In this episode, Penny shares:
- The pivotal moment where she realized she was holding herself back and blaming external factors for her inaction.
- How she discovered the ability to change her negative mindset into a positive, empowering one, and the impact that had on her actions and lifestyle.
- Her breakthroughs from what she learned in the Second Half SPARK School
- How the changes within her influenced her relationships, especially with her husband, showing that changing oneself can ripple outward and affect others
Penny's journey exemplifies the tremendous impact of how shifting one's mindset and thoughts to break free from self-imposed limitations, and embracing personal growth can make a positive difference in both personal and collective lives.
Her story serves as an inspiration for anyone seeking transformation and the courage to follow their authentic path towards a more happy and fulfilling life.

The 10 Signs That You May Be Afraid of Change, Even If You Are Unhappy
Tuesday Oct 17, 2023
Tuesday Oct 17, 2023
EP371: Are you feeling stuck in mud? Like you can't budge in the direction of positive change, even though you're not happy with where you are in life?
Well if that's you, you are likely what I call a "Scared Settler," someone who chooses to settle for the life she isn't happy in because she is more scared of change, of the unknown that she is fearing will be worse - not better.
Because the truth is, she sees other people who have it much worse so she continues to talk herself into staying in the mediocre life she's living, with zero passion or purpose about what she does every day.
She is far from excited about what's on her To Do list, which zaps all of her energy, so she escapes into non-productive, time-wasting activities, like scrolling social media. She ignores these feelings and instead continues going about her days doing the same things she did yesterday that will never get her out of the rut she's in.
And if she's over 50, she is probably blaming menopause for that lack of energy?! I'm sure you can now see why she can't get motivated to take action. Don't get me wrong! I know menopause can be a bitch. I had the worst hot flashes imaginable for a few years but when you find blame outside of yourself, it's a convenient way to excuse your non-action.
She doesn't understand the problem and she doesn't know how to stop the cycle she's gotten into because, although she'd like to be happier, she's not at the miserable state yet which often drives most people to say "enough is enough" and finally take action.
So she stays stuck, settling for her mediocre life.
I know this and can tell you ALL about her because I WAS HER!!!
And that's the reason I'm so passionate about helping women to get out of this stuck place with this podcast, my free trainings, and my Second Half SPARK School.
So if my description hits home, know that you are not alone and there is hope because if I can get out of that mediocre place - missing out on the things that make me most passionate - then anyone can.
I urge you to take this seriously and make the rest of your life the best part of your life. There is so much for you to do in the time you have left so don't spend it settling!
The first step is awareness and now, if this episode topic resonated with what's going on in your life right now, you have that!

Are You A Dream Doer, Dream Delayer, or Non-Dreamer?
Tuesday Oct 10, 2023
Tuesday Oct 10, 2023
EP369: Unfortunately, most of us fall into the latter two categories of Dream Delayers or Non-Dreamers. But we all began life as Dream Doers and we can get back into dreaming very easily.
But in order to do that, you must understand the importance of having dreams. You need to know that it's ok to want more. As long as it is what YOU desire and excites you.
Don't make the mistake of going after someone else's dreams for you which is a mistake many of us make. We get into the wrong jobs because our parents dreamed of jobs that would make them proud. And we want that for them so and we think that will make us happy but we get there and BOOM! We realize we don't have any passion for that work.
That is just one simple example of why you need to dream. Dream about work that will drive you with deep passion and purpose. And imagine what that would look like...
To do that, carve out time to think about what you love to do in your spare time. Maybe there's something there that could be turned into a career or maybe just a hobby at first.
What else would you want if money wasn't an issue?
Pretend you have the funds to do anything you wanted. You have no limits. No restrictions on vacation time or other responsibilities in your life.
Where do you want to travel?
What do you want to do before you die? (And I'm not trying to be morbid! We're all gonna die so whether you're 15 or 50, you need a bucket list!!!)
Who do you want to meet, interview, learn more about?
What skill do you want to develop?
What have you been delaying or scared to try?
Don't be afraid of your dreams. The truth is that your dreams are in you for a reason. You are meant to pursue them.
Don't let them die with you. Go after them! Let the universe know what they are so you can have help. Believe it or not, you don't have to do all of the heavy lifting.
And as you pursue your dreams, while being content with whatever you have at the moment - which is key - know that others are watching and will be inspired by you. So be the example and inspire others to do the same!
